Carbonite (now part of OpenText) has been backing up home computers since 2005, and its Safe Basic plan keeps the classic formula. Unlimited backup for one computer at $95.99 a year, about $8.00 a month, and it renews at that same price, automatic and continuous. Its support team walks non-technical users through restores with real patience, which families value at exactly the worst moment. Compared honestly with Backblaze, Carbonite uploads slower, video files need manual selection on the basic plan, and external drive backup costs extra. It works, dependably, just with more asterisks than its great rival.
