Match the storage to the phone and you are usually right. iCloud+ on iPhone backs up devices and photos invisibly, and Google One on Android does the same with better search and a real web office. The interesting case is the mixed household or the privacy-minded Apple user.

Should I use Google One or iCloud+?

Which is cheaper for 2 TB, Google One or iCloud+?
Google One, once you pay yearly. Both list 2 TB at $9.99 a month, but Google One's annual plan works out at $99.99 a year against $119.88 for twelve months of iCloud+. Below 2 TB, iCloud+ has the cheaper ladder: 50 GB at $0.99 and 200 GB at $2.99 a month. US dollars, checked July 2026.
How do I make iCloud actually private?
Turn on Advanced Data Protection, and do it today. It is an opt-in setting that extends end-to-end encryption to almost everything in the account, including device backups, and it is why we call iCloud+ the more private of the two big tech clouds. Google One has no equivalent. Its encryption is server-side and Google holds the keys.
What should a household with both iPhones and Android phones do?
Choose per person, not per family. Google One shares 2 TB across six people and iCloud+ has family sharing throughout, so the cheapest route is one plan on whichever platform dominates, with the odd device out on a free tier. Do not expect to bridge them. iCloud on Android is effectively nonexistent, and tolerable at best on Windows.
