Who is behind Dropbox?

Was Dropbox hacked in 2026?
Some accounts were. Between August 4 and 21, 2026, attackers got into about 5,000 Dropbox accounts through Lenovo ID. That is a Lenovo login that could be linked to a Dropbox account. A flaw in Lenovo's email verification let attackers create a Lenovo ID with someone else's email address, so victims did not need a Lenovo account of their own. Only accounts without two-step verification were hit. Files were viewed or downloaded in fewer than a third of them. Dropbox ended every session that came in through Lenovo ID and unlinked all Lenovo IDs from Dropbox accounts. Signing in that way now requires your Dropbox password.
